Confirmation - what are you?

Will you confirm the you? What confirmation will in that case have?

What is confirmation?
There are several ways to confirm the on, but in Norway it is common to confirm the either ecclesiastical or humanistic. An ecclesiastical confirmation is about to confirm and renew baptismal promises and their faith. A humanistic confirmation about learning to make their own choices and challenge to independent thinking and ethical reflection.

The word "confirmation" comes from the Latin word "confirmatio" which means affirmation, confirmation or strengthening.



Why Confirmation one themselves?
It is completely optional for you to confirm the up or not, but about 80% of all 15 year olds in Norway choose to confirm the taking. Approximately 16% of these choose Humanistic confirmations, while the rest choose the ecclesiastical variant.

CRC states that countries should respect children and young people's right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. From you have turned 15, you have therefore the right to decide completely even though you will be confirmed ecclesiastic, humanistic or not at all.

What is the difference between ecclesiastical and humanistic confirmation?
An ecclesiastical confirmation is all about learning the basics of Christianity and the Bible. The aim for confirmation time is to awaken and strengthen the life of faith given in baptism, to live in self-denial and faith, worship and service as a disciple of Jesus Christ (Plan for Christian education, God gives - we share, 2010).

A humanistic confirmation about strengthening humanistic values in society, and is a course in religion and ethics. The aim is to strengthen young people's capacity for independent thinking and ethical action.

Both variants have courses that span several weeks and concluded with a solemn ceremony. Some places do you go on confirmation camp, else not. This know local branch or ward where you live more about!

One must be a Christian to confirm the up church?
No. You can choose to confirm the ecclesiastical you whether you believe, doubt or are just curious to learn more. However, you must be baptized, or baptized you during the confirmation time.

You can also choose humanities confirmation regardless of your or your parents' beliefs. You can choose humanities confirmation and be a member of the state church simultaneously.

What happens at the confirmation course?
If you choose humanities confirmation course includes various topics related to ethical issues and focus particularly on young people. Important topics are belief, humanitarianism and human rights. Themes such as commitment, responsibility for the world, racism, tolerance, youth and sexuality, substance abuse, gender roles are also often discussed.

The course starts mostly in January / February and lasts until the ceremony. It is common with a weekly evening classes from 1½ to 2 hours duration.

If you choose ecclesiastical confirmation you are familiar with and participate in parts of the ministry. Among core measures are church services, education and diakonia (church care services). In most congregations will be able to attend camp, participate in discussion and interest groups, solidarity action, music dance and drama.

Confirmation time is conducted over a period of at least eight months and has a projected extent of 60 hours.

Do I make a speech on confirmation day?
Nobody can decide that you will make a speech on confirmation day, but it's probably some parents appreciate it if you choose to do so.

What I write thank you notes after graduation?
It is completely up to you what you choose to write in thank you notes, but it is customary to thank you for the gift you got for graduation. A tip is to write down what you get by whom the confirmation day, allowing you for example write 'thanks for jewelry' instead of 'thanks for the gift'. Then it becomes immediately a little more personal. In addition, you can if you wish to thank the guests who were in your graduation that they came.

Comments:
You should not confirm the on infant Church, unless you are a devout Christian. One who believes that Jesus Christ died, rose again, and now lives in heaven. If you do that, you should confirm the you in church. If not, then not konfirmer you. Humanist is not true.
